*** UPDATE - It looks as though StriPeptin has changed it's name to DermaRet. But don't worry, they still offer the SAME "Free Trial" scam that probably forced them to change their name!***
What is DermaRet-SM?
DermaRet-SM (aka Stripeptin-SM) or DermaRet Stretch Mark is a lotion that targets - you got it - Stretch Marks!
Stripeptin, which has recently and suspiciously changed their name to DermaRet, has been around for quite some time. Their products aren't half bad, but they use a pretty deceptive marketing tactic - the "Free Trial". I will talk about this "Free Trial" a bit more later in my review.
DermaRet's products contain good ingredients, like peptides, but lack sufficient amounts to actually help hide or remove those stretch marks.
A peptide is a chemical which stimulates the growth of skin cells.
Saying your ‘stretch mark' cream has peptides that can "eradicate all signs of stretch marks better than laser surgery" is criminal -- especially when they don't display the ingredients or their quantities. These types of claims, that are unverified, are what get's companies into trouble by the FTC.
What about clinical studies? Ya right! Don't believe lies. If they paid for a real clinical study, they would publish the results, or at least provide a link. But throwing out the word ‘clinical study' and not providing evidence is like saying you discovered the fountain of youth, but forgot where it was.
Could DermaRet Get Any Worse?
It gets worse. Instead of pushing some guarantee, they push a “free trial.” The free trial is a classic ‘bait-and-switch' con. In the fine print you read that accepting a ‘free trial' means they can charge your credit card $85/month for the rest of your life. And if you have ever tried canceling such an agreement, you know you basically have to get cancel that credit card and start over.
DermaRet-SM also pushes the Free Trial. Never do a free trial! It's an auto ship trap. If you're willing to pay $85/month for the rest of your life, then you'll like this. But I know you don't want that! Read the "fine print" I pulled off of their site:
Terms & Conditions: Terms & Conditions: Start your FREE Trial now to receive a full one-month supply of DermaRet-SM (retail price is $60.00). You'll have (14 days from placing order) , to evaluate this product and see the results for yourself. If you enjoy Dermaret FL, simply do nothing. Plus, when you accept this FREE Trial, you will be enrolled in our DermaRet-SM VIP Program and be charged the super low price of $39.95...a 35% savingsat the end of your 14-day trial period. You'll continue to enjoy a fresh one-month supply of DermaRet-SM every 30 days for the same low price plus free shipping (U.S. orders only)... again a 35% savings! The unused portion must reach our Receiving Department within 14 days of your order date.
Yikes, so if you order DermaRet-SM and it takes 4 days to ship out, 4 days to return, you are stuck with a real trial period of only 6 days. And what happens if your return doesn't make it back to them by 14 days? You have just kissed $50 down the toilet AND you are still enrolled in their auto-ship scam, I mean VIP program.
There have been so many customers burned by these things it is surprising that they had to "rebrand" Stripeptin, which is now DermaRet. But don't worry, they are still offering the "free trial".
