To the points it still tries to make, I can agree that Lunesta may not be for everyone. My doctor first had me try Rozerem. That wasn't quite right for me, so then we tried Lunesta next. Lunesta turned out to be perfect. Its really given me my sleep back beautifully. I grateful very much for it.
As for side effects, the only thing I've experienced is the 'metaly' taste at times. For me, avoiding it is easy. The metaly taste comes from allowing the pill to rest on your tongue/taste buds as you go to take the pill. I'd often pop the pill in (like any pill), then get a glass of water and swallow. With Lunesta, I just have my water ready first, then toss the tiny pill in and take it immediately. And do remember, not everyone experiences the side effect anyways. My brother was on Lunesta before myself, and he's never had the metaly taste.
And lastly, as for having to go to your doctor to get it being some sort of hassle, I'm really not sure what to say to that. I myself would never imagine trying sleep aids, or any prescriptions, without the advice/guidance of my doctor. To me, its not a hassle, its a necessity. I prefer trusting my health to my doctor of many years over a hack website.

I'm echoing the "metallic taste" aspect first. I've been on it for two weeks now and that taste was apparent a great deal for the first few days, it is minor now. And like Marion, a little mouth wash helps clear it. For me, the taste is pretty much gone for the day.
As for resting on the tongue, I don't do that, I pop it in my mouth and immediately drink water. I still get the taste.
I do wake up several times a night however and do not get 7 - 8 hours sleep out of it. To caveat that, I started a sleep machine regime (sleep apnea) in November and the tweaking of the machine is not complete. That is probably what keeps waking me up.
I do not want to go on Ambien - addicting and wierd side-effects...
