Are there diet pills that we do like? Yes - quite a few actually. When we rate diet pills we look at a variety of factors including: ingredients, customer feedback (which is why we allow you to post your reviews) and the satisfaction guarantee (if there is one). There are a few diet pills that have received extremely high marks across the board, and our favorite is Apidexin. You can read our review or go to the official site. Carb Blockers
Do Carb Blockers Really Work?
Why wouldn’t we as a nation jump on a product that allows us to eat those starchy foods we adore so much like bread, pasta and potatoes, and have them leave our body as waste before they can be converted into fat and stored for later?
What are Carb Blockers
Carb Blockers first originated in the 1980’s when scientists found that some substances inhibited the function of alpha amylase, the starch-digesting enzyme in the body. When alpha amylase is suppressed the body cannot absorb carbohydrates, which allows them to pass through the body unnoticed. One of these substances is phaseolus vulgaris, which is found in white kidney beans. Unfortunately scientists at the time couldn’t manipulate the substance correctly, and early carb blocker users complained of gastric problems including diarrhea, cramping and bloating. Eventually the FDA advised the discontinuation of this product.
They’ve recently made a comeback however, new and improved, without as many side effects, and as popular as ever. But do they work?
Do Carb Blockers Work?
Well yes, if taken wisely. You can’t expect them to block a super-sized McDonald’s meal and allow the bad stuff to sail merrily out of your system without detection. That would be like trying to hide an elephant in your guest bathroom, and the patrons not notice it’s there!
There have been clinical trials done on carb blockers that have rendered some positive results. One such trial conducted by J. Udani and M. Hardy and documented in ‘Blocking Carbohydrate Absorption and Weight Loss: A Clinical Trial Using Fractionary White Bean Extract” Alternative Medicine Review 9:1 page 63-69, used fifty obese adults in a double-blind study. Panel subjects were given either a carb blocker or placebo shortly before meals. Their normal exercise and eating habits were kept the same. After eight weeks the carb blocker group had lost an average of 3.79 lbs and the placebo group only 1.65 lbs.
Another by E. Thom entitled ‘A Randomized, Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial of a New Weight-Loss Reducing Agent of Natural Origin’ and found in J. Int. Med Res 28, 229-33 (2000) used 40 participants. One group of subjects was given a product containing a carb blocker, and the other a placebo. After twelve weeks the carb blocker group lost an average of 7.7 lbs, whereas the placebo group lost only 2.6 lbs. This study did use a product containing ingredients in addition to the carb blocker which may have affected the outcome.
Conclusion
According to research there’s some pretty positive proof that phaseolus vulgaris does keep amylase from breaking down carbohydrates, and reduces the levels of glucose in the blood after meals by up to 60%. In fact, carb blockers may help regulate the way in which the body uses and produces insulin. And weight loss can be a positive result of using carb blockers as the number of calories absorbed by food is significantly reduced.
Carb blockers do have their fair share of critics, who cite them as being an expensive waste of time, but we believe, if taken along with a sensible diet, and not used as a fallback for eating excessive quantities of junk food, they’re worth trying.
