Are there diet pills that we do like? Yes - quite a few actually. When we rate diet pills we look at a variety of factors including: ingredients, customer feedback (which is why we allow you to post your reviews) and the satisfaction guarantee (if there is one). There are a few diet pills that have received extremely high marks across the board, and our favorite is Apidexin. You can read our review or go to the official site. Chamomile
What is Chamomile?
We’ve probably all seen at least one commercial for an herbal tea. It’s usually someone bundled up with a steaming cup of some soothing elixir meant to melt away the stress of the day and whisk you off to dream land. There are more herbal tea varieties than I have toes and fingers to count but Chamomile is one of the tried and true relaxing teas.
Chamomile is a general term given to a wide variety of daisy like plants that grow all over the world in temperate climates. The name “Chamomile” or the common “Camomile” comes to us via the French language from the original Latin and Greek word that meant “earth apple.” Today the varieties of Chamomile are almost exclusively used in teas for a variety of ailments.
Uses of Chamomile
Medicinal databases maintained by official government entities list more than 100 ailments for which Chamomile has been used. Although it is used for such a high volume of problems, only a few have been tested by independent scientific researchers on humans or animals. Of the 100 listed uses only 15 had any scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of Chamomile as an herbal remedy. The most common uses are as a calming agent to relax the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, for the common cold and for gastrointestinal issues. All but one of the common uses for Chamomile were found to have “unclear scientific evidence” supporting the traditional use.
A certain flavonoid, Chrysin, found in Chamomile has been found to be in a class of flavonoids that are minor tranquilizers. This discovery likely confirms Chamomile’s calming effects and explains why it’s an effective sleep aid. Of the 15 uses supported by some kind of scientific evidence, only the calming properties were excluded from the “unclear scientific evidence” category.
Chamomile is also used for indigestion and other common intestinal issues. There is little evidence to support this claim in the official database but I know I have personally used it with good results. If Chamomile can help me relieve stomach discomfort while traveling through the third world, it will likely be effective for most people with common stomach discomfort.
Risks
The popular use of Chamomile as a beverage, a sleep aid and an overall herbal medicine makes me pretty confident there are no serious health risks associated with its use for the vast majority of people. Still, it’s important to know that The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine cautions that rare allergic reactions like skin rash, sedation or miscarriage can occur. Since Chamomile is so common there have not been a sufficient number of studies done into the potential allergic hazards.
Final Word
Sipping a cup of Chamomile tea is a great way to wind down and there’s even a good amount of evidence that it will work for most people. That should be enough to ask of a little daisy, but claims about its weight loss benefits or miracle cure properties are probably overstated.
