Tests involving the Damiana herb as weight loss supplement are also low in number, especially with humans for subjects. One of these reported the following: “A clinical trial on a combination product called YGD capsules, containing Damiana along with two herbs having high-caffeine content, documented significant weight loss in participants. The herbal preparation significantly delayed gastric emptying, reduced the time to perceived gastric fullness and induced significant weight loss over 45 days in overweight patients treated in a primary health care context.”
That is a promising result. However, it doesn’t test Damiana by itself which is ultimately the only way to know whether or not it is an effective weight loss supplement. Damiana has been reported to have certain laxative properties and this is the main reason it would be included in any dietary supplement. Damiana herb will not help you burn fat and there is no evidence that it is an effective appetite suppressant. As a laxative it could help you lose weight, but it will be mostly water weight and results will be very temporary.
