Pomegranate Diet

Pomegranate diets come in many shapes and sizes however basically they are diets that have the pomegranate as the core food in their diet.  In recent years, pomegranates and pomegranate supplements have become a very popular ingredient to aid in weight loss, especially with the references to gold medal winning Olympic athlete Michael Phelps and his use of pomegranates in his diet.

Pros

• Pomegranates provide energy from the excessive amount of vitamins (such as vitamins A, E, C, B5 and B12)
• After regular use many people had seen themselves getting a burst of energy in the morning making it easier to get up and want to face the day, this lead to healthier mental help as well. These vitamins help to keep your body healthy and ready to exercise.
• Pomegranates provide an amazing natural source of antioxidants and omega fatty acids.  These antioxidants and omega fatty acids break up and aid the removal of toxins, bacteria and viruses in our body.  They also help fight off free radicals that invade our system.
• They’re easy to consume when they’re in capsule form.
• The Pomegranate diet is all natural and is approved by the FDA, so therefore you don’t receive any weird side effects.

Cons

• As most weight loss systems seem to do after the initial cleansing the pounds that were lost each week did slow down.
•  There really isn’t very much clinical data to support actual weight loss as a benefit of consuming more pomegranates.
• Now I don’t consider this a bad thing because my family loves the taste of the natural pomegranate, but the pomegranate is a seasonal fruit making it hard and expensive to get the real thing.  Thus the availability of the pomegranate supplements would be convenient, but we do miss out on the amazing taste of the natural fruit. 
• Pomegranate juice is actually very high in calories, which could end up working against you in your fight to slim down.

Price

• Pomegranates as fresh produce cost between $1.99 and $3.00 per serving.  If fresh pomegranates become the primary nutritional source everyday in your diet, it could get very expensive.
• If you plan on getting your pomegranate through supplements.  Plan on taking 2-3 capsules per day.  This ends up being much more cost effective.  You can get about a months worth of pills for about $10.00.
