Diphenhydramine is an anti-histamine, which is commonly used in over the counter allergy medication like Benadryl to relieve symptoms like water eyes, sore throat, and stuffy nose. One of the side effects of taking diphenhydramine is that it makes you feel very drowsy and sleepy, which is why this ingredient can also be found in several sleep aid formulas. Unisom PM Pain, in addition to diphenhydramine, also contains acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is a common pain reliever, used to relieve headaches and other minor aches and pains.
